RECOMMENDATIONS

Request for References and Recommendations.

Below are the following guidelines to request a reference from me.

  1. Please ensure that I know you well and email me asking for a recommendation before submitting a request. I like to write specific reference letters that are more likely to get noticed and appreciated. The more that I know about you, the more specific the letter will be.

  2. Make a formal request by submitting the following form/appointment below. Explain the purpose of the recommendation and why you chose me to write your letter. Also provide me with time to consider your request.

  3. Ask early. Submit a request for recommendation at least three weeks in advance of the deadline—preferably a month or more, especially if you need multiple letters. Below is the scheduling agent for you to book an appointment with me to request for a reference.

*Please note: This does not guarantee that I will accept the request

You will be asked the following questions in the reference request. I suggest preparing a statement to these questions ahead of time and then copy and paste them into the form. Here are the questions

  • Recommendation request statement (see below).

  • Graded papers or assignments that you completed in my class.

  • A list of other helpful details about your work and experience with me that you feel is important to highlight.

  • A written description of your career interests and aspirations—why are you applying to this position? Provide a draft describing why you are a fit for this position.

4. Provide information about the following. The more I know about the position/school you seek to enter/ scholarship, the more easily I can tailor the letter toward a specific audience.

  • A description of the job/graduate school(s)/scholarship to which you are applying. This requires some research on your part, and it will help you assess how suited you are to the position. If you are applying to multiple places, bring all your requests at once.

  • The application forms and materials, with the deadlines clearly indicated and the relevant portions filled in. If the application asks whether you waive (give up) your right to view the recommendation letter, I recommend that you agree to waive it. guaranteeing that the letter is candid and trustworthy. I only write and send reference letters directly to the requester. I do not send letters or forms back to students.
